Let's Talk About It! Podcast

Let’s Talk About It is our open invitation to the community to dive into the conversations that truly matter in public health. When we first started brainstorming ways to connect with people we aren’t currently reaching—those who might not even know what we do—we kept coming back to two big reasons why people don’t engage with us:

  1. Stigma
  2. Lack of knowledge

People often don’t understand what public health is or what our health department does, and there’s also a general lack of trust, especially post-COVID. So, we thought, why not start having real, honest conversations? Conversations with everyone—especially those who aren’t already walking through our doors.

The Let’s Talk About It podcast was born from that idea. We wanted to reach out to the folks who don’t know who we are, what we do, or who we serve. And we wanted to talk about the tough stuff—like vaccine skepticism, the impact of misinformation, and public trust.

Here’s how the podcast breaks down:

  • Season 1 is all about introductions. These short, 15-ish minute episodes are like meeting a stranger for the first time—we talk about the basics, share the history of public health, and clear up some common misconceptions about our services.

  • Season 2 will dig a little deeper, with 30-ish minute episodes tackling bigger public health topics like breastfeeding barriers, livable wages in child care, and maternal mental health. We'll even bring in guest speakers because public health is a team effort!

  • Season 3 is where things get real. These hour-long episodes will dive into the tough conversations—like the stigma surrounding HIV, what really happened during COVID, systemic racism, and more. We’re not afraid to tackle the controversial stuff because these discussions need to happen.

Our goal? To be a resource the community can trust and feel comfortable talking to. Even if we don’t always agree, we want to open our doors, clear up misconceptions, and maybe even inspire the next generation of public health professionals.

We’re spreading the word through social media, billboards, Tony’s Pizza Event Center, stickers, t-shirts, flyers, and anywhere else we can. Public health is for everyone, and we want this podcast to be a space for honest, open dialogue.

So, let’s talk about it!
