Key Messages:

  • Two rounds of light to moderate snow with breezy/gusty north winds are expected late Thursday through early Friday and again Sunday through early Monday.
  • Residents should take the necessary steps to be prepared for bitter cold Arctic air and dangerous wind chills late Thursday through Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

The National Weather Service has advised that the coming days will bring two rounds of light to moderate snow, accompanied by breezy and gusty north winds. This may lead to hazardous travel conditions, with snow, blowing snow, and low visibility.

The first round is expected to occur from late Thursday through early Friday. Saline County can expect light to modest snowfall amounts, stout and gusty north winds, and falling temperatures. 

The second round is anticipated from Sunday through early Monday and is also expected to bring light to modest accumulating snowfall, with very cold temperatures and breezy north winds.

Due to inclement weather and staffing, the south Satellite Tag Office is closed today. The main office, located at 300 W. Ash St., Room 210 is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Residents can schedule an appointment or renew tags online and find other services at salinecountyks.gov/vehicle-registration.

  • Travel will become very difficult to impossible over central Kansas.
  • Cold on Tuesday and much colder on Friday and this weekend (well below zero wind chills).

Central Kansas is facing a severe weather event with moderate to heavy snowfall expected from this afternoon into Tuesday morning. Travel across the region will be extremely difficult, potentially impossible, due to significant snow accumulation and reduced visibility.

Saline County may see up to 8 inches of snow by 3 a.m. tonight. The coming days are anticipated to bring a sharp drop in temperatures, leading to extremely cold conditions, especially by the weekend. 

Residents are advised to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated with the latest weather forecasts. For more information, review the full weather packet.

A severe winter storm is expected to hit central Kansas, including Saline County, late Monday and through Tuesday. Residents should expect heavy snowfall with blowing and drifting, making travel extremely difficult to potentially impossible. Whiteout conditions are likely Monday night, with Salina expected to face the worst conditions Tuesday night.
